Let me introduce you to someone who wants to become your best friend... You have probably heard of this person but may not know Him personally. The Bible says that He will stick closer to you than a brother. His name is Jesus. If you died right now, where you would spend eternity? If your answer is “Heaven,” then why would God let you in there? If you think it’s because you have been a good person, that won’t get you past the pearly gates. All of us have committed sins like telling lies and disobeying our parents. James 2:10 says, “For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.” Some people claim that nobody knows for sure they will go to heaven. But 1 John 5:12-13 tells us, "He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life..." Eternal life or salvation is a gift from God. But it is not something that you can earn by being good. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Regardless of what you have done in the past, you can receive God's free gift of salvation by making Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9-10 says, "...if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." You might be saying to yourself, "Well, I go to church." Walking into a church doesn't make anyone a Christian just like walking into a hospital doesn't make anyone a doctor. Some people think that there many different paths to God. But Jesus Himself said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Nobody can come to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Following a religion or any other god will not save you from hell. Have you noticed that when people curse they often use Jesus’ name in vain? Satan has tried to discredit the Lord’s name but he still has to bow down whenever a Christian speaks the name of Jesus with boldness. As Philippians 2:10 says, “….that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” You can be sure of having eternal life by saying the following prayer out loud: "God in Heaven, I know I'm a sinner and I need Your help. I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and rose again from the dead. Jesus, come into my heart, make Yourself real to me, cleanse me and protect me with Your precious blood, fill me with the Holy Spirit, keep me away from sin, be my Lord and Savior. Amen." Congratulations! You have just reserved a place in heaven by making Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior. God has a wonderful plan for your life that will manifest if you take the time to do the following... 1. Read at least one chapter from the Bible every day. Start with the Gospel of John to find out more about who Jesus is. That will help you understand other parts of the Bible. 2. Pray to God daily. Don't worry about speaking to Him in "King James English." Just be yourself and remember that Jesus is not only your Lord but also your best friend. 3. Consistently attend a Bible-believing church to hear the word of God taught and to build relationships with other Christians. Ask God to show you which church He wants you to go to. 4. Tell others about salvation through Jesus Christ. If we can get excited at a rock concert or sporting event, certainly we should have enthusiasm about our relationship with God. Revelation 12:11 says we overcome Satan by the Blood of Jesus and our testimony. (C) Copyright 2004 Todd Richard Post German translation Spanish translation French translation
